Urgent calls for more training and tactical options for police after cop cars rammed by stolen vehicles

NT Police Association President Nathan Finn fears it’s only a matter of time before an officer is killed if immediate action isn’t taken after four incidents of police cars being rammed in the last three months.

He told Katie Woolf he’s written to the police executive calling for tyre spikes, vehicle interdiction like PIT maneuvers, that box in vehicles and specialized training similar to that of the TRG.

Mr Finn says members had to withdraw from one incident in Alice Springs recently due to safety reasons, leaving them frustrated by the lack of tools to stop youths behind the wheel.
