A Darwin man is facing up to 12 charges over allegedly possessing thousands of child abuse material files.
The Northern Territory Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team received reports from the United States’ National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about an online user in Australia allegedly accessing files containing child abuse materials.
A 71-year-old man was linked to the alleged offending, with NT JACET investigators executing a search warrant on a Darwin home on Tuesday.
During the search warrant, investigators allegedly found various devices including mobile phones, tablets, hard drives, USBs and laptops, containing tens of thousands of files containing explicit child abuse images and videos.
The alleged offender has been charged with using a carriage service to access child pornography material, using a carriage service to access and/or transmit child abuse material, and ten counts of possessing child abuse material for use through a carriage service.
He is due to front Darwin Local Court on 29 September 2026.
NT Police Force Detective Senior Sergeant Toby Wilson says anyone involved in child abuse material offences should expect to face the full force of the law.
“Anyone who possesses child abuse material is directly financing and encouraging those who produce and distribute it,”
“If you are committing offences that involve child abuse material, expect a knock on the door from JACET officers.”
