Police thwarted an attempted break in Palmerston last night, as two adults and a young child attempted to unlawfully enter a business in the CBD.

The 30 and 38-year-old were caught on CCTV, allowing police to interveen before they gained entry.

The child was under the age of 10, and cannot be held criminally responsible.

The two adults remain in custody and the child has been taken into the care of a responsible adult.

Northern Watch Commander Rob Overall says security cameras helped stop further criminal action.

“The early detection by Police CCTV operators, and the prompt attendance by Palmerston General Duties members prevented any serious damage to the premises, or property being stolen.”
