Pumps stalled at Darwin River Dam amid heavy rainfall

Darwin residents are being asked to limit their water usage with pumps stalled at the Darwin River Dam.

The dam is the Territory capital’s main water supply and has temporarily ceased operations due to equipment being flooded amid heavy rain.

In a statement Power and Water say it’s an unprecedented situation and they’ve never seen the current volume of water in the dam before.

They say generators will be used to try and re-start the pumps but are asking residents to limit their water use in the meantime.
