Seven Indonesian Nationals have faced Darwin Local Court, pleading guilty to illegally fishing in Australian waters.

Authorities say they intercepted the fishers on March 3 near Cape York after a local spotted their boat concealed in mangroves.

It’s alleged officers found nearly 2,000kg of sea cucumber and a variety of fishing equipment on board.

All seven have been removed from the country.

153 Indonesian fishers prosecuted in Darwin since July 1 last year.

Acting Deputy Commander Maritime Border Command Brooke Dewar says illegal fishing remains a priority.

“The ABF continues to disrupt illegal foreign fishing in Australian waters. Our officers detected this vessel concealed in the mangroves and took decisive action to protect Australia’s maritime resources and sovereign borders,” she says.
