Investigations are underway following the discovery of skeletal remains near Lee Point Beach.
A bushwalker found the bones at lunchtime on Wednesday, with a crime scene established soon after.
The scene has been examined over the last two days by medical experts including a forensic pathologist.
A large number of bones including a skull have been recovered, which will be subject to further analysis.
Police are appealing for anyone with knowledge about the death to contact 131 444 and quote reference number 10129744.
