At about 4:00am on Thursday morning Northern Territory Police received a report of a single vehicle rollover around the vicinity of 15 Mile Camp on the Stuart Highway Johnston.

The vehicle was reported to have rolled travelling along the inbound lanes.

The driver and sole occupant was assisted from the vehicle via the rear windscreen by a passing motorist.

Northern Territory Police and Fire members provided a rapid response to the location and found a red Mazda 2 sedan on it’s side.

The 18-year-old female driver returned a high range roadside breath test result of 0.191%.

She was placed under arrest and conveyed by Saint John’s Ambulance under Police guard to the Royal Darwin Hospital where she will underwent a medical examination and a blood test.

The driver admitted to texting on her mobile phone prior to the crash having returned from a boozy night in Darwin City Night Clubs.

The driver will face the Darwin Local Court at a later date on high range drink driving and other manner of driving offences.

Northern Territory Police urge all members of the public to make appropriately travel arrangements if intending on consuming alcohol and under no circumstances use your mobile phone whilst driving.

On this occasion the driver luckily escaped with relatively minor injuries.

Sadly the decision to get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol has resulted in fatal consequences for too many Territorians.
