While Hollywood’s elite usually spend their time on red carpets, lately, the biggest A-listers have been making a detour to a much more colourful neighbourhood. Sesame Street has always been a magnet for talent, but the recent visits from Miley Cyrus and Ryan Gosling have brought a fresh wave of magic, and a healthy dose of “rock” drama, to the long-running series.

Miley Cyrus Dives Deep into Imagination

Grammy winner Miley Cyrus joined Elmo and the gang for a vibrant lesson in creativity during the episode Elmo’s Toy Swap, now streaming on Netflix. The episode follows Elmo as he navigates the tricky emotions of trading his old toys, only to realize that his friends use them in ways he never expected.

Cyrus steps in to help Elmo embrace these new perspectives. In a standout musical segment, the pair performs ‘Just Imagine’, a catchy anthem about the power of play. Set against a whimsical underwater backdrop, Miley and Elmo board a submarine to show how a little bit of imagination can turn a simple game into a grand adventure.

It wasn’t all singing, though. In a cheeky nod to her high-fashion status, Cyrus produced a glittering high-heeled shoe, challenging the characters to think of all the imaginative ways it could be used. Whether it was meeting Big Bird or encouraging the gang to “let their imaginations run free,” Miley’s appearance was a masterclass in creative thinking.

Ryan Gosling and the “Rocco” Rivalry

If Miley brought the glamour, Ryan Gosling brought the laughs, and perhaps a bit of stress for Elmo. The Barbie star made a playful appearance to present Elmo with a handmade gift. The catch? The gift was supposedly made by Gosling’s friend “Rocky.”

Long-time fans of the show will know that Elmo has a legendary, decades-long feud with Zoe’s pet rock, Rocco. So, when Gosling revealed that his friend Rocky is, in fact, a rock, the look on Elmo’s face was priceless.

“Mr Ryan, Elmo has a thing about rocks,” the red monster explained, clearly skeptical that a geological object could craft a beautiful gift. However, Gosling used the moment to deliver a poignant message about inclusivity. He admitted he was initially “hesitant” to befriend Rocky because they were so different, but eventually realized that “friendships can come in unexpected forms”.

While Elmo eventually agreed to thank Rocky, he remained hilariously unconvinced, muttering to himself after Ryan left that a rock simply “can’t use pipe cleaners!”. Gosling also found time for a quirky encounter with the iconic Yip Yip Martians, further cementing his status as a Sesame Street natural.

Naturally, Rocky is a reference to his alien friend in his latest film Project Hail Mary which is goind great in cinemas.

A Legacy of Learning

These appearances are part of a storied tradition for Sesame Street. Since 1969, the program has welcomed everyone from Nicole Kidman to Michael B. Jordan, using celebrity star power to teach children about curiosity, confidence, and kindness.
