John Fogerty is no stranger to a good laugh, and he proved it yet again at the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas. The Creedence Clearwater Revival legend had a bit of fun with a long-standing joke about one of his band’s most iconic tracks.

As Fogerty strolled past iHeartRadio at the event on Saturday (September 20), he was asked, “John, can I ask you where the bathroom is?” Without missing a beat, he responded, “There’s a bathroom on the right.” Classic.

For those not in the know, this is a cheeky nod to the famously misheard lyric from CCR’s 1969 hit Bad Moon Rising. While the actual line in the chorus is “there’s a bad moon on the rise,” many fans have hilariously misquoted it as “there’s a bathroom on the right” for years.

In an interview with Forbes in 2023, Fogerty shared how fans have embraced the mix-up, even turning up to gigs with signs bearing the misheard lyric. And instead of getting annoyed, he leaned into the joke. “A lot of them have arrows pointing to the right, and it gets confusing—do they mean my right or their right?” he said with a laugh. Now, like a true professional (or first-grade teacher), he points to his left, aka their right, when performing the song.

Fogerty has even re-recorded Bad Moon Rising and other CCR classics on his latest album, Legacy: The Creedence Clearwater Revival Years. The album, released last month, is a way for him to reclaim the rights to his music while giving fans a fresh take on old favourites.

The rock legend took to the stage at the iHeartRadio Music Festival for a killer set packed with CCR hits. He even turned it into a family affair, jamming out with his son Shane Fogerty in an epic guitar battle. The festival also featured performances from a stacked lineup, including Ed Sheeran, Maroon 5, LL COOL J, Mariah Carey, Tim McGraw, and The Offspring, among others.

Didn’t catch it live? No worries. You can relive all the action when the iHeartRadio Music Festival special hits or listen to it via the free iHeart app.
