Solving a Rubik’s Cube is challenging enough on solid ground, but one German YouTuber has taken the challenge to extreme heights, literally. Tom Kopke, known online as Tooleko, has claimed a Guinness World Record after completing the puzzle while skydiving, finishing in 23.333 seconds before opening his parachute.

The record-breaking jump took place above Mossel Bay in South Africa earlier this year. Kopke leapt from a plane and began solving the cube during freefall, with the clock stopping once the puzzle was completed. His time beat the previous record of 28.25 seconds, which had been held by Australian skydiver Sam Sieracki since 2023.

Kopke, who is 23, told Guinness World Records the idea had been years in the making. He first learned to solve a Rubik’s Cube as a teenager and later began posting increasingly ambitious challenge videos online. The skydiving attempt had been delayed until he gained the necessary licence and experience to attempt it safely.

Practising for the attempt brought its own risks, especially the possibility of dropping the cube mid-fall. Kopke said he spent significant time getting used to handling the puzzle in the air, describing the transfer of the cube as the most dangerous moment of the entire stunt.

Now officially recognised by Guinness World Records, the feat adds another unusual entry to the growing list of extreme Rubik’s Cube challenges. For Kopke, it is also just the beginning, with the YouTuber hinting that more high-adrenaline skydiving videos are already in the works.
