Finke Desert Race Fans Flown To Interstate Hospitals

Some drama off the track at the Finke Desert Race over the weekend…

Six spectators were rushed to hospital after an explosion at a Deep Well campground on Saturday.

Three of the injured fans were flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital and two were taken to Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital – one of them in a critical condition.

The NT Government having to defend the safety of the event as well as the Territory health system, with the majority of the victims needing to be transferred interstate because the NT lacks a severe burns unit.

Meantime, hometown hero David Walsh inked his name in the history books taking his fifth consecutive title in the bikes category, while Beau Robinson claimed his first King of the Desert.
