Man arrested after allegedly striking an NT police officer

A man has allegedly assaulted a police officer while trying to flee the scene of a domestic violence incident.  

Police responded to reports of a domestic violence incident on Litchfield Court, Coconut Grove at 2am Friday morning. 

When police arrived, they witnessed a 24-year-old man fleeing the scene in a car.

The man’s driver side door was open when he allegedly reversed the car, striking a female officer.  

The man continued to drive however he did not get far before losing control of the car. 

Police arrested the man and he is set to face charges for the alleged domestic violence incident and assault to police later today. 

The officer was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital for assessment, and the victim of the alleged domestic violence assault has been treated by paramedics.  

Territory Duty Superintendent Tanya Mace says assaults like these are unacceptable in the community.

“Assaults on anybody, including police members, are completely unacceptable and this individual will faces charges for it.”
