NT Police have stopped the plans of two people from allegedly fleeing the country, instead charging them with a string of fraudulent offences.

The 24-year-old man and 22-year-old woman arrived in Darwin on a private flight on Saturday May 20, and were staying in a Mitchell Street hotel.

Part of a national operation into the pairs alleged fraudulent criminal behaviour, detectives from the NT Joint Organised Crime Task Force (JOCTF) executed a search warrant for their hotel room and found an unlicensed gun, a trafficable quantity of drugs and a large number of electronic devices.

The duo was arrested a short time later in the hotel lobby, with their matters now before the courts.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Darren Burns says investigations will continue and further charges are expected to be laid.

“Detectives are currently analysing all of the seized electronic devices which police believe will reveal significant fraud across multiple states and territories in Australia.”
