Territorians and tourists can take their pick from a big line-up of events in the NT this year.
The jam packed events 2023 calendar features the territories favourites, such as Darwin Lions Beer Can Regatta, the Katherine Junk Festival and Bass in the Grass.
Thirty-nine events will receive 2.4 million dollars through the Northern Territory Government’s Event Funding Program (NTMEC).
Minister for tourism and hospitality Nicole Manison says Territorians run the best events.
“Whether it be our major music and cultural festivals, sporting events or community events, the Territory provides the most unique experiences in the nation,” she says.
“Our events calendar is critical to our tourism and hospitality sectors, and is a major contributor to the Territory economy.
“We are focused on growing the calendar every year and that’s what we are delivering in 2023.”
Baker Boy, Amy Shark, Angus and Julia Stone and many more artists will head to Darwin in May to perform at the Territories biggest event, Bass in the Grass.
The festival is on track to sell out quick, with only final release tickets left.
Newly funded events this year include the Big Name, No Blankets NT Community Tour, which is a travelling rock-and-roll theatre show.
The show will celebrate the iconic Warumpi Band and its inspiring journey from the remote NT community of Papunya to international fame.
It will showcase the Luritja, Gumatj and Warlpiri languages, as well as culture and dance from Central Australia and the stunning landscapes of North East Arnhem Land.
Darwin Symphony Orchestra’s ‘Rhythm of the 90s’ concert will take place at the Darwin Botanic Gardens Amphitheatre on June 24.
The orchestra and a front band of local musicians will be performing the best 90s music, including hits from Natalie Imbruglia, Tina Arena, Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Coolio and Metallica.
Darwin Symphony Orchestra general manager Kate Stephens says they are delighted to have received funding.
“This funding allows us to continue bringing this much-loved event to life, and further enhance the audience experience for Territorians and visitors alike,” she says.
“Rhythm of the 90s will be an unmissable throwback party, featuring the finest of Territory talent in our full symphony orchestra and front band.
“Celebrating the best pop hits, Aussie favourites, hip hop classics and metal legends, this performance truly has something for everybody to enjoy.
“The concert gives thousands of Territorians access to a world-class concert presentation in the beautiful setting of the Darwin Botanic Gardens.
“This family-friendly and accessible event is entry by donation, and we encourage everybody to come together and enjoy a night of entertainment.”
