Woman’s head run over while she was laying on a Darwin City street

A woman remains in hospital after being run over in Darwin’s CBD overnight.

Police say the 40-year-old woman was intoxicated and laying on the road on Smith Street near the NAB Building at around 11:20pm, when a car stopped and the driver attempted to help the woman off the road.

Meanwhile, another car turned left off of Whitfield Street and onto Smith Street, with the driver unaware of the woman on the road, and the cars back left tyre ran over the woman’s head.

Her head was bleeding when emergency services arrived to the scene, but the woman was still conscious and talking.

She was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and the driver has returned negative drug and alcohol results.
